This year we chose "light" as the central element within the METAMORFOZE 6 project. The theme of "light" is, in essence, an invitation to rekindle connections between people, between people and the city, between the inside and the outside. Each mural becomes a medium through which light "flows" — through the eyes, to the mind, and then to the heart.
What are we actually doing? We are painting 2 electrical transformation points in the Tudor neighborhood, Târgu Mureș city.
Because we want to put a new light on the city of Târgu Mureș in 2025.
We want to make viewers think a little, to appreciate what light does for us, to analyze things from multiple perspectives for a broader opinion. We want to create a social response both visually and conceptually.
We hope to stimulate the imagination of those who will see the murals developed and to become landmark locations that improve the urban face of the city.
Reflection – Mirrors of the City
Elements that use visual games with reflections, with shiny surfaces or colors that imitate metallic or glass surfaces. Reflection becomes a metaphor for introspection and the way the city reflects itself in its inhabitants, and vice versa.
Refraction – Distorted Vision
Through refraction, light bends and changes our perception of reality. Certain murals will use curved lines, overlays of transparencies or effects that suggest visual distortions of light as it passes through different media.
Light is the first language we learn without words. It is how we orient ourselves and how we perceive reality. Without light, the human experience is missing an essential part. That is precisely why, in 2025, we choose light as the central theme — because it is the element that makes art, vision, non-verbal communication, and emotional connection with the surrounding environment possible.
Light is also a profound symbol, present in all cultures as a metaphor for knowledge, revelation, hope, and truth. In a city where communities seek meaning and spaces for expression, light becomes the bond between generations, between past and future, within the public space.
The murals created as part of this year’s edition will not be murals in the classic sense alone, but visual experiences that integrate optical principles and phenomena specific to the propagation of light.
The theme of “light” is, at its core, an invitation to rekindle connections between people, between people and the city, between interior and exterior. Each mural becomes a medium through which light “flows” — through the eyes, to the mind, and then to the heart.
In an increasingly fragmented world, we choose to offer an answer through light. Not one that blinds, but one that reveals. Not one that consumes, but one that creates space for breathing and reflection.
The Metamorfoze 6 project is co-financed by the Municipality of Târgu Mureș through the 2025 cultural project competition.
The project does not necessarily represent the position of the Municipality of Târgu Mureş and the Local Council, which are not responsible for the content of the project or how its results may be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the funding beneficiary.
